The Top Most Memorable YA Quotes: the funny and the sassy and the meaningful

It is a universally-agreed-upon fact that the bookish read a bunch.

There are, consequently, those books that stand out and those who do not*; characters who are likable and those that are not; and, sometimes, there are quotes that are memorable (and – you guessed it – those that are not. #ParallelSentencesFTW)

Also, its been SUCH a long time since I’ve done a discussion post? And I must remedy that, so here we are.

*speaking of, I’ve written a post in which I list the most forgettable books, by the way. Not the bad books, by any means, just the not so memorable. That post of mine is fabulous and, you know, you should definitely check it out.

Anyways. Back to the topic at hand.

Today I’ll be talking about the quotes, of course. Specifically, the most memorable ones. Of course, most posts I’ve seen like this one list the “best” quotes, ie, the deep and profound. BUT NOT THIS POST! These quotes could be the funniest or the dumbest or the most tear-jerking. It’s all fair game, because, well, those are the things that make a quote memorable, at least in my opinion.

Oh! And let it be known that this post was super fun to put together, by the way. Digging through my old favorites is a nostalgic process. So I hope you have as much fun reading this as I had writing it?? Yes?? Alrighty then.

This declaration of Lada’s
(from Kiersten White’s AND I DARKEN)

“On our wedding night,” she said, “I will cut out your tongue and swallow it.
Then both tongues that spoke our marriage vows will belong to me, and I will be wed only to myself.
You will most likely choke to death on your own blood, which will be unfortunate, but I will be
both husband and wife and therefore not a widow to be pitied.”

HOLY WHAT.

I love this quote so. much. It’s so viciously unexpected, but then again, so is everything Lada says and does. And can I just say that I’m so excited for BRIGHT WE BURN’s release? Because I am. Very much so.

I think this quote sets up this post’s tone nicely.

This gem of a conversation by the Dregs
(from Leigh Bardugo’s SIX OF CROWS)

Jesper knocked his head against the hull and cast his eyes heavenward. “Fine. But if Pekka
Rollins kills us all, I’m going to get Wylan’s ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute
just so that I can annoy the hell out of your ghost.”
Brekker’s lips quirked. “I’ll just hire Matthias’ ghost to kick your ghost’s ass.”
“My ghost won’t associate with your ghost,” Matthias said primly, and
then wondered if the sea air was rotting his brain.

These dorks are so adorable and I love them.

I mean, the cover’s tagline is literally six dangerous outcasts, one impossible heist.. and this is what they actually are. Bless their hearts.

Okay but cAN WE APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT KAZ JOINS IN TOO? He’s a nerd at heart and this is why we love and fear him.

This, from Lydia’s father to his daughter
(from Jeff Zentner’s THE SERPENT KING)

“I want you to be careful in this world. My heart is wrapped up in you.”

Okay, but this quote hits me, nay, this quote SUCKER-PUNCHES ME right in the feels. I don’t know why, really. Just like I don’t know why I’m addicted to Jeff Zentner’s hella depressing books.

I’ve even written a whole Twitter thread about this book and may even have cried. Maybe. We cannot be sure.

THIS. OH MY GOODNESS, THIS.
(from Marie Rutkoski’s THE WINNER’S KISS)

Roshar lay on his back, the dip of his neck bolstered by a tied bedroll. He smoked.
“I’ve been thinking.”
“Dear gods.”
“It occurs to me that you have no official rank, and that I, as your prince,
might give you one.” He said an eastern word Arin didn’t know. “Well? Will it suit?”
“Depends.”
“On?”
“Whether that word was some horrific insult you’re pretending
is an actual military rank.”
“How mistrustful! Arin, I have taught you every foul curse I know.”
“I’m sure you’ve saved a few, for just such a time.”

BLESS THESE TWO. BLESS THEIR BANTER. BLESS THEIR SASS.

 THIS.
(from Angie Thomas’ THE HATE U GIVE)

“At an early age I learned that people make mistakes, and you have to decide if
their mistakes are bigger than your love for them.”

I love this so, so much. And do you know how hard it was to pick just one quote from THUG? Very hard, in case you were wondering. Very very hard.

This thought of Charlotte’s
(from Erin Bowman’s RETRIBUTION RAILS)

The devil wears wings at all the right times and then casts
them aside when we believe him to be an angel.

YASS GIRL.

This sass of Lila’s
(from VE Schwab’s A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC)

“I apologize for anything I might have done. I was not myself.”
“I apologize for shooting you in the leg.” said Lila. “I was myself entirely.”

So, add to my list!

What are the scenes that make you
laugh/cry/think/remember? Give me
allll the memorable quotes, please.
I’m probably missing a ton.
